Hmm, this may be an urban legend. I heared this story in the 1980's at an assembly.
I reacted in the same way as you. People laughing about it made med feel really bad.

Troubling experience at 1 day assembly re: little jw child
by williamhconley injust had my 1day assembly this weekend.
an experience given by the bethel speaker was quite troubling and shows how jw's live in constant paranoia, anxiety and they isolate themselves from normal living.. a first grade class was having a fire drill.
everyone ( except one) lined up and stood outside away fron the classroom in the grass.

I think lawyers are being used to write all the literature
by EndofMysteries inif you think about how they word and spin doctor everything, such as on jw org, the faq about shunning members who leave the religion....if a jw says, "look, it says you don't shun ex members and family ties remain no matter what!
", they will say, "na ah ah!!
if you look closely it talks about inactive ones who are not shunned, and as for family, the example is of a husband in the same household as his wife and children.

They have a writing departement, that's for sure. But probably all litterature passes though the legal departemen before being published.
But this misleading about shunning can be a double-edged sword.

I don't knoe that much aboy the maney. But you have to separate/differentiae among two things: the JWs as a "church" or network of congregations, and the watchtower society. The GB rules the JW. Thwe watchtower society is something different. I was surprized when I learned that there is some people that are shareholders in the watchtower society. But it is almost impossible to get information on who these shareholders are.
Have you read the story about the Menlo Park scandal....there is a thread here about an ex elder that still thinks it is just a regional fraud.

I think the official explanation is that ice-hockey is physically agressive as a sport.
The real explanation is what Mr Punk said earlier. Besides, playing in a team of wordlies is not looked upon as something good.

Space/Time and speed of light to explain how quick God created the Earth
by EndofMysteries injust a random thinking outside the box thought i had today.
it began with doing a little more reading about space/time.
scientifically, it's known that as one approaches the speed of light, time slows down for them.

Active JW's, can you defend "THE TRUTH?"
by DATA-DOG inas of yet, no member of the jehovah's witness faith can defend their unique beliefs.
when the dust settles, it all comes down to blind faith in men's ever-changing ideas.
this "unique belief" was not a "true teaching of the bible.

Yep, it is possible to "pioneer" and to enjoy KFc and beer at the same time! I suppose Brother Outlaw is pioneering that way!
